About Maya Love

MAYA LOVE (Dragonsfly) delivers a compelling performance through her natural warmth and her rich and sumptuous voice. Her songs have been described as uplifting, powerful and even life-changing.

Maya started performing with bands over 20 years ago, singing with the road protest band, Heathens All in 1994, joining The Invisible Opera Company of Tibet in 1997 and starting her own high energy folk fusion band, Dragonsfly (1998 to the present day) with Daygan Robinson. In this she plays the Celtic music of France and Brittany on her bagpipes and recorders as well as playing self-penned songs and more from Eastern Europe and the Middle and Far East. She has also collaborated in projects with Sheila Chandra, Billy Bragg, Daevid Allen (Gong) and Banco de Gaia.

In 2012 Maya embarked on a solo career, bringing together some of her well loved songs with a whole new set, delivered through her usual inimitable, captivating presence.

The healing quality of Maya’s songs has been recognised by many who have used them to support or celebrate their own life transitions, including marriage, hand-fasting, child birth, loss, separation, death and more.

Maya is deeply grateful to be able to be living the dream in a beautiful, low impact home dwelling with her husband and daughter on a Permaculture smallholding in the vales of Avalon. Immersed in fruit orchards and gardens, it is the home of the Taoist Barefoot Practitioner Training courses, where the community live in a way that holds all life in love and lives by example from nature, embodying ideals of love, connection and harmony.

Recently she's been awarded the Arts Council England award for Developing Your Creative Practice and is journeying currently with singing with the trees and her musical muses as she follows a path of improvisation, collaboration, experimentation, inspiration and deep inner listening to the song of the inner and outer landscape.
